New Facts about babies


v  In US, more babies are born in late Summer & early winter fall than in other times. And February is the month when least babies are born.

v  Wednesday is the day when more babies are born in US, than in other days of week. And Sunday is the slowest day.

v  Records shows that, in 2010, the number of single mothers under 18, living with their children in US were 9.8 million up from 3.4 million in 1970.

v  Babies can suffer serious health effects if their mothers have an STD, including death, low birth weight, conjunctivitis (an eye infection), pneumonia, neonatal sepsis ( infection in  the baby’s blood stream), neurologic damage, blindness, deafness, acute hepatitis, meningitis, chronic liver disease & cirrhosis. Many of these problems can be prevented if the mother receives prenatal care that includes screening for STDs.

v  In US, UTAH has the highest birthrate at about 21 babies per 1000 people. Vermont has the lowest birth rate, with slightly more than 10 babies born per 1000 people.

v  In the year 2006 in United States., there were about 1,049 male babies born for every 1,000 female babies & this ratio has been consistent for the past 60 years.

v  It is shown in research that babies born with Cesarean are more likely to have breathing difficulties, as it is thought they may miss out on important hormonal & physiological changes that occur during labor.

v  It also shows in research that a baby responds positively to the fragrance of its mother’s breasts & ignores breast pads used by other women. Even more striking is the discovery that a blindfolded woman has the ability to identify her own child from a host of other babies by scent alone.

v  A newborn baby has about one cup of blood in his body.

v  From the journey of birth to toilet training, a baby goes through an average of 8000 Diapers.
